We said our goodbye to our dad, grandad and father in law this week.
We kind of knew a few weeks before that the outcome was not going to be good. This meant we were able to prepare the children.
So straight after school finishing we went into dance comps. It was in the middle of the night after Cerise did her solo that we got the sad news. We told the girls that he waited for them to dance.
In the time between him passing and the funeral we took a break away up to the lakes for some much needed family time, we really needed it.
They have lost an amazing grandad and James his lovely dad. His illness did come as a bit of a surprise as although he was the grand age of 81, he was a relatively fit man. He would still go for walks, ride his bike and he loved his family and always joked about with the kids, no matter what mood he was in.
He worked on the ships all his working life, and was proud that he’d travelled around the world 9 times, stopping at nearly every country. How fab!
The first time I met him was in 2001. He picked James and I up from Lime Street station for my first visit to Liverpool. I knew from that weekend that James was from a really lovely family. Later down the line I knew that although my own dad was a lost cause, my kids would have one amazing grandad. And he really was. He will be greatly missed.
